    Central Alabama Pride

Central Alabama Pride is set to return in June. It's one of the biggest and most important Pride events in the Deep South.

Central Alabama Pride primarily takes place in Birmingham, the largest city in Alabama and the cultural heart of the state’s LGBTQ+ community. While the festival itself is anchored in central Birmingham — especially in areas like the Lakeview District (home to the Sunset Parade along 7th Avenue South) and Historic Linn Park (where PrideFest is held) — its reach and impact extend far beyond city limits.

The term "Central Alabama" refers to a broader region that includes surrounding counties such as Jefferson, Shelby, Blount, and St. Clair. Central Alabama Pride serves LGBTQ+ individuals, allies, and community organizations throughout this region.

Parade: Sunset Spectacle on June 14

The highlight of the festivities is the Sunset Pride Parade on Saturday, June 14th, commencing at 8:00 PM. The parade will proceed along 7th Avenue South, starting near 32nd Street and traversing the vibrant Lakeview District. Expect a dazzling display of illuminated floats, energetic marching bands, and a diverse array of community groups, all celebrating the spirit of Pride under the evening sky.

PrideFest: Live Entertainment at Linn Park

On Sunday, June 15th, the celebration continues with PrideFest at Historic Linn Park. This family-friendly event will feature live performances from local and national artists, drag shows, food vendors, and community booths.

    History of Central Alabama Pride

Celebrating its 46th year, Central Alabama Pride stands as a testament to the enduring strength and unity of the LGBTQ+ community in the South. Central Alabama Pride traces its roots back to 1979, making it one of the oldest continuous Pride celebrations in the American South. Born out of a need for visibility and solidarity in a deeply conservative region, the event began as a modest gathering of activists and allies in Birmingham who were determined to push back against stigma and claim space for the LGBTQ+ community.
