Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras 2026

Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras 2026 will take place from February 13 to March 1, marking its 48th year as one of the world’s biggest LGBTQIA+ celebrations. What began as a political protest in 1978 has evolved into a global festival of pride, culture, and community, with hundreds of thousands of visitors expected to join the festivities. The iconic Mardi Gras Parade returns on February 28, filling Oxford Street with dazzling floats, performers, and a brand-new block party at Taylor Square.

    The Parade Returns

The Mardi Gras Parade is the beating heart of the festival, drawing huge crowds along Oxford Street as over 200 floats and marching groups showcase the diversity of the LGBTQIA+ community. For 2026, the addition of a Taylor Square block party brings even more colour and excitement to this world-famous spectacle.

    Fair Day in Victoria Park

On the opening weekend, Fair Day at Victoria Park kicks things off with a celebration that attracts more than 80,000 attendees. Expect market stalls, community organisations, live performances, food vendors, and family-friendly activities. Newer features such as Trans Camp and the Karaoke Cave will return, ensuring Fair Day remains one of the most inclusive highlights of the festival.

    Parties and Nightlife

From glamorous balls to open-air poolside sessions, Mardi Gras nightlife is unmatched. The Sissy Ball shines a spotlight on ballroom culture, while the Kaftana Pool Party brings daytime decadence. The legendary Mardi Gras Party will once again be a centrepiece of the festival, with 2026 headliners including Grammy-winning DJ Honey Dijon and UK artist Romy.

    Arts, Culture, and Community

Mardi Gras extends well beyond parties. The open-access Mardi Gras+ program showcases queer creativity in venues across the city, while the Blak & Deadly Gala Concert honours First Nations voices. Major venues like the Sydney Opera House will host performances, including acclaimed shows such as Samuel Barnett’s “They Will Be Kings.” Family-friendly events like Disco on the Green and the Pride in Sport Festival add even more dimensions to the program, ensuring space for every part of the LGBTQIA+ community.
